Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
2010
Coquina Harbor is located on the ICW in Little River. Where is LIttle River? It’s adjacent to and between North Myrtle Beach and the North Carolina State line. In addition to it being close to everything in the Myrtle Beach area, the harbor is a well known hurricane hole with condos built all the way around the harbor giving protection from the wind. We would recommend the MBYC to anyone traveling the ICW.
We enjoyed visiting Al’s cousin, Stephanie and her husband, Kevin. One evening, we met for dinner with their daughter, son-in-law and grandson. Naturally, after dinner, we came back to Mon Amie to show her off to young ones.
While in the area, we took advantage of the various live shows, the beaches, the restaurants and golf courses for Al. One evening, Al noticed another Krogen at the fuel dock. It was Tranquility Base. Marcia and Charlie Corbett were aboard taking her up to the Chesapeake Bay. We had a morning visit with them and wished them well as they motored out of the harbor.
We also took advantage of being in one place for a few months. Mon Amie had some small gell coat repairs done along with a new coat of polish. We also purchased a new bow roller for our shiny new Quick-Line anchor. In order to mount it, we had one of the bow sprit holes filled in with marine plywood and fiberglass. Our new addition should give us easy anchoring.
The last week in June, we rented an ocean front condo right on the North Myrtle Beach ocean front. Adam, Tracy, Brayden and Chessa visited us that week. We took full advantage of the warm ocean, swimming and playing with our two grandchildren. Adam and Al played golf 3 times that week. And, Suzanne and Al had Brayden and Chessa all to ourselves one night when we enjoyed a nearby carnival. After many fun rides, there was plenty of cotton candy and ice cream. Afterwards, we had a nice walk on the beach back to the condo.
During July, we drove to Salisbury, Maryland for our semi-annual dentist visit. While there, we had dinner at Boonies with some of our boating friends, Larry and Jeanette Moser. The first part of August. we drove to Aiken, SC for the our first trip there. We stayed with good friends Larry and Cindy McHale. Aiken surprised both of us with it’s size, quaintness, and hospitality. Larry and Cindy live in a gated community with two golf courses. They took us to an English dinner at their club. It brought back memories of when we lived in Europe and traveled England.
Late in August, Al participated in a four day golf tournament. He was the high handicapper but still did win some of the cash prizes. Unfortunately, right after labor day, Al strained his back resulting in two herniated discs. After a couple of epidurals, he began to recover. The doctors expect him to be fully recovered within 60 to 90 days.
In the meantime, Suzanne finally received a contract on her dad’s home which has been for sale since his passing in August 2008. Closing is the end of October. Right after that, we expect to begin our journey back to Stuart, Florida. It will be great to be back cruising again.
Summer 2010
10/1/10
Our home for the summer was the Myrtle Beach Yacht Club within the Coquina Harbor at Little River, SC. The staff took good care of us. Our slip was only a few steps away from the swimming pool which was a pleasant relief to this hot summer.
